What’s new to the sneakypeek closet? These delights by Blossom Headpieces and Accessories are what’s new. Like them? So do we.

The thing with flower accessories is that no matter where you go, you’re bound to make an impact- either by receiving a swarm of compliments or a swarm of bees who think you’re an actual walking flower. Either way- you’ll make an impact.

A few weeks ago, we decided to frolic through a garden wearing our favourite flowery pieces by Blossom. Here’s what it looked like.

So here’s something less than dandy. A month or so ago,  our site crashed and lost all it’s data. We’ve spent the last few months re-booting everything and posting up as many of our previous bloggery gems as possible. But we couldn’t get everything back up. But rather than weeping to the heavens and shaking our hands with vengeance, we thought we’d just re-launch our site with our most recent photoshoot, which we called Morocco. The post itself is gone, but the visual glory is still in tact!

So here’s to being back online and just as sneaky as ever!

A Sneaky Easter

Happy Easter, sneakies!

And what a delicious day it is. So delicious, in fact that we decided to create an Easter weekend outfit.

For us, this weekend will consist of an extended sesh in the garden, obscene amounts of chocolate and perhaps some pastel egg painting. So naturally, we included all of these things in our weekend outfit, from the water-colour floral print of this Sportsgirl frock to the pastel floral ears created by Goddess Flora.

We also sprinkled some whimsical weekend accessories just for funsies. And trust us, if we could somehow incorporate chocolate into our outfit without staining the crap out of the rest of our clothes, we would do it.

It’s our perfect look for a breezy Easter weekend. What’s yours?

Karl Lagerfeld launches confusing new digital store

posted by on 2013.03.20, under Events, Style Reports
20:

The follies of Karl Lagerfeld (aka Mr Chanel) have enraptured us for years. His strange collaborations (who could forget his weird wine glass collab with Orrefors?), his violent disdain for women wearing sweatpants, and the endless Karl insta-updates featuring his cat, Choupette.

But here’s something we didn’t expect – Karl has just opened a new store in Paris that has an inbuilt online shopping facility. Yep, its a bricks and mortar store containing digitalised dressing rooms called ‘Karl Booths’. Shoppers will be able to try on their favourite Karl threads, photograph themselves inside these elusive Karl Booths and then share these images through their social networks. Visitors can also sign an online guestbook which is projected for the whole shop to see. And finally, shoppers can purchase their outfits online via the Karl Booths, rather than paying at a register.

Now, while we give a big high five to team Karl for trying to keep their fashion mojo relevant for the digi-age, we also have to ask the question: ‘what the hell?’. We don’t get it. Seriously, someone explain this to us.

Firstly, does this kind of shopping setup not remind you of a glorified internet cafe? Secondly, won’t our e-friends start hating us for posting gratuitous ’do I look fat in this?’ photos online? And if we have to take photos of ourselves in our dressing rooms, does this mean we have to start making an effort not to look like a slob when we go shopping?

Perhaps this is just one part of Karl’s scheme to stop women wearing sweatpants once and for all. If so, touchè, Largie.

Thoughts?

We’re going noir, Sneakies.

This week, our outfit it inspired by the 1940′s femme fatale of hard boiled crime fiction. Dangerous and mysterious, this noir film vixen is everything we want to be this season.

Going out at night during winter is one of our least favourite ways to contract typhoid, so we’re recommending this gorgeous Saveus gown because of it’s incredible thickness and heat-insulating tube style. Keep this look feminine by choosing a waist-cinching gown and a coat with small but structured shoulders and a straight line (as opposed to a flare) or even a silky jacket with moulded shoulder pads (if Bacall can do it, you can too). And finally, remember to curl that ‘do to create that sexy 1940′s tousle!

Smoulder forth, sneaky ones!

If you’re wardrobe has started to look like a dystopian wasteland of fashion have-beens, we hear you. It’s that awkward time of year when we have to let go of our summer wardrobe and start re-thinking our very existence (ie: go shopping). So in lieu of floaty beach frocks, we’re descending into the cooler months with an edge. Here’s how we styled our Autumn-ready look.

Holly Fulton A/W 2013 is so weirdly fabulous it hurts

posted by on 2013.03.13, under Events, Style Reports
13:

Holly Fulton’s latest Ready to Wear, Autumn/ Winter collection is like Gatsby on crack. And it’s the best thing we’ve seen in ages.

Geometric and bold, Fulton’s brain-blowing prints look like a strange mix of the works of M.C Escher, 30′s Art Deco and Art Deco motifs and 80′s rock-star fandom.

This dynamic collection was inspired by 80′s pinup actress Béatrice Dalle, whose gap-toothed Frenchness and iconic rebelliousness captured Fulton’s imagination: “the obsessive love that a groupie has for her rock star, all the paraphernalia she collects, and her utter, slavish devotion to her object of desire” explains Fulton.

Some of our fave inclusions in Fulton’s collection were the appearance of a digitally printed tiger image, a graphic print made entirely from lipsticks and the groupie-esque rock band badge appliques that covered a bomber jacket.

So sneakies, are you gap-toothed fans of this crazy collection?

Sneakypeeked: Nixi Killick

Without a doubt, Nixi Killick was born with mermaid blood.

We met Nixi a few months ago at the Sportsgirl National Graduate Showcase media launch. She’s a finalist in this competition and will show at L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Week in March this year. High five!

Working from her boho Brunswick studio, Nixi delves into painting, illustration and forging otherworldly pieces that make our brains implode.

We had a sneaky chat with Melbourne’s design rockstar about design, the universe and mutant mermaids. Here’s the sneakypeek.

{ When did you realise you wanted to be a designer? }

I have a background in circus costume, performance and the arts so expressive culture is so engrained it’s just another way of breathing. I prefer the term ‘imagineer’ to designer. I feel that the art-fashion nexus has reached a critical crossover. Work can act as a dialogue speculating over the role of future-tive technology in creative escapism and question how the contemporary climate is embracing avenues for articulating a ‘maverick hybrid culture’.

In my practice I avoid creative compartmentalising and embrace expression in whatever form. Labelling is transient but ideas are paramount.  I think for me the most important thing is to be creating new work that speaks across a variety of platforms. This idea is expanded in my 2012 thesis ‘Untitled: The evolutionary alchemy of creativity. Rise of the ‘hybrid maverick’.’

{ What influences your aesthetic? }

The frenetics of the universe untamed. I guess in some sense I’m searching for a hyper-culture.  A disparate collision of adjacent possibles! Utilising hijacked technology in conjunction with artisanal hands as empowering catalysts. Colour texture and material recognition are pivotal in my aesthetic, especially in my most recent collection ‘Future-tive nature’ where a synergy with my painting explorations drew out a sort of bio-psychedelic vision.

{ If you could dress anyone, past or present, who would it be and how would you frock them up? }

Hmm… that’s a tough one. Right now im thinking probably the monumental bodacious babe Frida Kahlo. I would pop some serous pattern jamming in and a massive chunk of face bedazzling and body paint! Think Aztec Ganesh meets pixel gladiator meets mutant mermaid. Ha!

{ What kind of materials do you work with? Is it difficult to fashion them into wearable pieces? }

Im interested in material alternatives. In my last collection I experimented with mediums like latex, fibre optics, vacuum formed plastic and 3D prototyping, Utilising technologies like laser cutting and etching to create different surfaces and look into the idea of superlative structures. I think part of the appeal of ‘non-materials’ is the challenge of recontextualising materials and methodologies that exist in other paradigms to expand on my fashion practice.

{ Where would we find you on a lazy Sunday arvo? }

Lazy Sunday? They don’t exist! Ha! But I guess the equivalent would be in the depths on the night when I can find a kaleidoscope of clarity through my painting portal! Im a studio dweller and there is always magic to be made.

{ What do you have planned for the rest of 2013? }

2013 is already shaping up to be the busiest and most incredible year yet! Filled with new experiences and maintaining the momentum! Im showing my graduate collection at both the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival and iD New Zealand emerging designer awards in March, as well as installations at Penthouse mouse and a show of paintings. I’m also working on pieces for a new collection and freelance styling. This year I will get to India, this year I will expand horizons and most of all this year I have given myself to the dream.

Hartje Andresen does a headstand for Dossier

Um, awesome? Just when we thought it was so easy to be a model, Hartje Andresen goes and does a shoot entirely on her head.

Touche, topsy-turvy one.

So this editorial was shot by Elle Muliarchyk for indie fash mag Dossier Journal and features pieces by Prada, Kenzo and Proenza Schouler. It also features Hartje (who is not only a model but a semi-professional rock climber- um, yeah we’re not surprised- as well as a gourmet coffee-shop owner.)

Whether or not the concept of this shoot expands from ‘upside-down-ness’, we’re not quite sure. But we are sure that this shoot looks awesome. Also, the fact that tinned spam makes an appearance next to the most expensive clothing in the world is pretty priceless.
