Look familiar? Yep, this is an illustrated version of the Sneakypeek girl in green, as featured in our banner picture!

The illustrator is Caitlin Shearer, a lover of glamour and eras gone by. Here’s a sneakypeek into her watercoloured world.

{ In a sentence, how would you describe your aesthetic? }

Quirky paper people in a fancy world of their own.

{ What’s in your toolkit? }

Watercolour paints, pacer pencils, smooth cotton paper, pressed flowers, glitter, black ink, masking fluid.

{ Why do you love drawing vintage women? }

I’m greatly inspired by the past and am obsessed with 1940′s-50′s cinema and fashion, and this love seems to seep into my work.
Of course, not being there first hand means i have to draw all my information from films and biographies of women alive in those days, so i suppose i love the fanciful side of it all.There was a certain immaculate charm to the clothes and manners back then, and glamour was also abundant.

I appreciate the attention to detail and the amount of care put into dressing yourself, (carefully coiffed hair and dresses made to enhance the body, gloves and hats and stockings asa pre-requisite for daywear, etc…) , and although it’s very hard to relate to the way women lived and though in that era, i think it’s still important to appreciate those aesthetics which i find particularly enchanting.

{ Do you love to wear vintage clothing as well? }
Yes! Vintage dresses with cinch waists and puffy skirts are my favourite silhouette. (a uniform for me, really.)
I also have a collection of satin slips and Ferragamo shoes and I would be over the moon if i owned all of the dresses Anne Margret wears in Bye Bye Birdie.

{ How did you learn to draw? }

Practice, practice, practice.

{ Who’s cooler, Betty Page or Dita von Teese? }

Betty Page! (although i do love them both.) There’s something so naive and friendly about betty that makes her all the more alluring – Plus, she made all her own lingerie and outfits for posing which i admire.
