Something’s sassing up Oxford Street, Sydney. And it’s not The Stonewall Hotel.

It’s the newly-sprung Sassy Dolls boutique, exclusively stocking Maria de Guzman!

The flagship store will be full of bright, creatively colour-drenched designs. And we hear that her new collection is candy themed! Lordy, we can’t wait to see it!

Designer Maria de Guzman just showed her latest collection in NYC at Times Square. Sneakypeek was lucky enough to have a dandy chit-chat with the lass herself.

We hear your show at NYC was Candyland themed! How did you pull it off? Did you get to munch on sweets while you were at it?

Yes, my fashion show was candyland themed – the hot look this season is candy inspired for sugary sweetness.

I got in touch with Davina Reichman, the producer of  some amazing shows for emerging Australian designers in NYC. I told her about my plans and she took care of the rest so I could concentrate on designing.

You know you have made it when you do a fashion show in NYC and media surround you.

Colourful, vivid, bold, flirty and fun – electric blue, pretty pink, vibrant orange, stunning scarlet – the gorgeous models strutted their stuff down the catwalk to the flashes of what seemed like a million cameras and journalists hurriedly typing on their iPads.

And yes, I got to munch on sweets!

What will Sassy Dolls bring to Oxford Street?

Positioned as an affordable designer boutique of luxe brands, Sassy Dolls wants you to fit perfectly into your garment. You will get a personal touch to your shopping experience and they offer a personalised alteration service for all their garments.

What inspired your latest collection?

I choose exciting themes like the colours of candy to create my dresses. I create dresses with a mixture of flirty colours and luxe fabrics perfect for spring or summer fun.

What are some standout pieces that will be stocked at Sassy Dolls?

Sassy Dolls have such gorgous stuff it’s so hard to pick standout pieces. A candy party dress or two, feather earrings and sparkling glitter shoes are a must have this season!

What was it like designing for Being Born Again Couture? Did you work with any famous designers?

Being Born Again Couture was an amazing experience. “It’s all about the intricacies of haute couture – it’s an attitude, a modern avant-garde approach to fashion. I met Akira Isogawa and Marine Skillings and talked with them about their inspiration and where they are right now in the fashion design space.
